It's unfortunate but, there is no single application or even a suite of security applications that can protect your computer at all times. You must embrace the "Arsenal" approach for security. You must have one good Anti-Virus application and two or more Anti-Spy/Ad/MaulWare applications too. Even then, it takes just moments for an infection to sneak in between updates.
YOU CAN DO THIS ON A BUDGET TOO! Select one good Anti-Virus application - Remember, you should not have two Anti-Virus applications running at the same time because they may work against each other. Select two or three Anti-Spy/AdWare applications. Keep them all up-to-date! Here's a couple of excellent sources for current information about what's SAFE to use and Recommended by Professionals:
The System Optimization & PC Performance group: These folks provide Free Technical Support for various unusual issues related to PCs. They have a "sticky" on their Forum that provides current information about Free and Low Cost security applications.
